iPhone makes my (business) day!
I was recently in New York City on a business trip. There were major events going on in the city and I could not get a room in Manhattan. I ended up staying at the Holiday Inn, near JFK. Not cheap even so - at $250+ a night. I had a meeting in the morning in Brooklyn near the water, close to the Manhattan Bridge. There are many high-tech companies that are locating in this area, in restored old brick buildings. This area is not one that taxis or limos like to drive to/in, though this is obviously changing. The location I was going to was pretty much “off the map”. My iPhone was the tool that got me to my meeting on time!
I asked the hotel concierge for the best way to get to my meeting place. He suggested a private car (limo). The price was right and I made a reservation. The car arrived on time and I provided the driver with the address I was going to. I had looked on Google maps on my iPhone and told him the location was on the water between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge. He did not know the street and his GPS system could not locate it. He called in to his office. No one could help. I looked up the phone number where I was going in my email on my iPhone. The driver called but no one could provide directions as they all took the train to work! We were stumped until I remembered the Google Map application. I fired up my iPhone, entered locations, received directions and navigated my driver to the right spot. DOH! I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out that I had the perfect business tool in my pocket.
